Captain Keiran Morphew looks back at the historic double winning season, ahead to step 2 and picking up two club awards at presentation night.
DK: How do you reflect on the season overall?
KM: The best season I have had in football without a doubt. We’ve done well to have some good cup runs the last few seasons but I have always wanted a good league campaign and we delivered!
DK: Last season the aim was to have a better league campaign, so you must be pleased to have achieved it - in some style?
KM: Yea following on from the first question, it could not of gone any better!
DK: What was your favourite goal that either you or one of your teammates scored this season?
KM: I think Ings scored some belters but for me Dans winners at Berkhampstead and Halesowen really made me think we are a proper side.
DK: What other moments stood out most to you this season?
KM: Beating Leiston at home was a good night, Telford away was superb and York away. There’s others that I’m sure I’ve missed but it was the best season possible.
DK: Has it sunk in yet, doing the double?
KM: Yes I think it has sunk in, I’m preparing for next year trying to get ready to see how we will fair up against some top non league clubs.
DK: What's the overriding emotion you feel when you reflect on the season?
KM: Just so happy to have achieved something like that. You never think it’s possible really playing for a small village club.
DK: Can you pick a player of season?
KM: Very tough to do so but I thought everyone was excellent which they had to be, to be able to win the league. I voted for Kyle cause I thought he brought some steel in the midfield and always makes the right decision I felt. Coalville away was probably the best performance of the year from anyone.
DK: Another incredible FA Cup run, albeit falling just short of the first round, must top off the season?
KM: I thought we done enough to win it at home but we were lucky to nick the replay to be fair after Jake Dye heroics on the line.
DK: How does this compare to last time you got promoted with the club?
KM: This promotion is far greater than the one previous. The clubs we are up against financially to be able to compete with them and then being older personally you appreciate it more.
DK: How much does it mean to you to have done it as a small but close knit squad?
KM: We have always had a great changing room at Needham, something that Kev and Tom try to manage as well where they can. There’s different characters in there but all there to work hard for the club and have a good time doing it.
DK: Did you ever think you'd achieve what you have this season, especially as club captain?
KM: No I never imagined it, but now that we have achieved it, I think what on earth were we doing all those years down the bottom seem like a waste haha.
DK: What are your aims and targets for next season?
KM: Survival and enjoying playing whatever the result if possible.
DK: Congrats on your two awards on Friday, how much did it mean to win those?
KM: To win any award is always great and I’m happy I’ve played a part in the best season in the clubs history.
