PREVIEW | Tom Rothery Pre Match Interview | Hitchin Town v Needham Market 29.03.2024 | 27.03.2024 |

DK: Having responded well to setbacks so far this season, how important is it that it is repeated on Friday?

TR: That’s what we will aim to do and as you say that’s what the lads have done all season so far. To lose only 4 league games as we approach the Easter weekend is a phenomenal effort from the boys so hopefully we can carry that on in the remaining six games.

DK: Would you say the ten game unbeaten run we were on has set the tone for hopefully a landmark season?

TR: I wouldn’t say it’s set the tone as we’ve been consistent throughout the season but I think what we’ve done really well is in having that run in a crucial period under real pressure against good teams plus also with the highest amount of injuries and suspensions we’ve had all season. With such a small squad to have maintained the consistency we have especially when we have players out is a massive credit to the boys in some really high pressured games.

DK: What's the mood been like in training?

TR: The moods good the lads were really lively and trained well. We had a good chat after Saturday and as they have all season I believe they’ve taken what was said on board and we now move on. We’ve maintained a really level mentality throughout the season after victories, defeats or draws and put them into perspective and moved on quickly. I think we’ve shown a real professionalism all season.

DK: We're now entering the run in, do you see the next two games in the space of two days as the most crucial?

TR: Every game is crucial the fact that everybody plays two games over the weekend means there can be some real shift changes but again due to the run of midweeks we’ve had up until last week we are used to that in the past month so I see them as just important as there’s only six games left and this equates to a third of that so they’re important for that reason and I’m sure every club will feel the same regardless of what they’re fighting for, it’s a weekend where you can move significantly potentially.

DK: How much would it mean to you to get promoted?

TR: I think for everyone connected to the club it would be a huge achievement. For me personally I think with the resources we have and also the fact I’ve been at this level 8 years as has the club it would be exciting to be able to further test yourself at a higher level finally. I also feel that for Kev and I it would be some real justification for what we’ve tried to do and how hard we’ve worked alongside the players and management team to achieve that against sometimes a high level of criticism and scrutiny. I’ve maintained even during the tough times that in Kev we have an excellent manager and the best we could have and now the results are backing that up but that was always the case even during the tough times. I’m also really pleased that the lads are showing consistently what they’re capable of as they did before albeit without that consistency.

DK: What type of test do you expect on Friday?

TR: We’ve had this conversation many times this season and previous seasons, there are no easy games at this level. Clearly they’ve been on a bad run which is why they’ve changed manager but it is a strange one as when they came to us earlier in the season they were good and in the play offs and deservedly so. Brett knows the club and has already got a response with a draw against Telford last Saturday which is a great result when you put it in the context of 12 defeats before that and what a good side Telford are so I’m sure it’ll be very tough and one where we will need to be at our very best to get a result.
