DK: First of all welcome to the club, can you give us an insight on your football career so far (former clubs, key achievements - trophies etc)?
JS: I played locally growing up as a teenager, since then I’ve played for Mulbarton, Great Yarmouth and most recently Sheringham. I was fortunate to have some success with Mulbarton when I was younger winning a couple of the local Norfolk cup competitions. Things were a little stop start for obvious reasons with the pandemic a few years ago but my most recent achievement was definitely winning the title last year with Sheringham.
DK: How would you describe yourself as a striker, what can we expect to see from you?
JS: Hopefully some goals! Like to think I’m pretty quick, have experience and make it difficult for defenders.
DK: You notably scored in the FA Cup last season, can you put into words how much that meant to you and being part in your former club's impressive cup run?
JS: It was difficult to know what to do after scoring after 20 odd seconds! I remember just telling everyone to keep it as tight as possible without really celebrating it properly until the final whistle went. It was huge, was just great being the underdog for the day, going to their place and winning in the manner we did with everyone putting their bodies on the line, a classic cup match.
DK: Can you put into words how much it means to you to have signed for Needham?
JS: It’s a massive opportunity for me and one I’m really grateful for. For someone who’s grown up loving the sport, Needham Market is an impressive club and I just can’t wait to get started and will give it my all.
DK: Could you tell us how you signing for the club came about?
JS: Tom (Rothery) got in contact as soon as my season had finished. I met both Kev and Tom shortly after and was really impressed with everything they had to say and the plans going forward. I was also really impressed with how Needham played against Sheringham and feel it will suit my game. Also I’d just like to say on record how thankful I am for everyone at Sheringham past and present and for how good they have been to me during my time there.
DK: Could you pick three goals you've scored throughout to your career that standout to you and tell us about them?
JS: Tough question! I’ve mentioned it already but the lob in the Fa cup against Lowestoft so early on has to be included just because of the occasion. Most recently will be my first goal of a brace against Ipswich Wanderers towards the end of this season. Against such a quality outfit who were on a massive unbeaten run and conceded very few goals during that time. It was a great feeling to pause their celebrations albeit only for just one week, as they fully deserved the title the week after. Lastly but definitely not the least will be the hat trick goal I scored a few years ago in the Norfolk Senior Cup for Great Yarmouth. After being 3-0 down in 20 minutes, to equalise second half and eventually win on penalties was a great one for personally!
DK: You mentioned about having title winning experience, and obviously scoring in big moments, hopefully that'll be something we'll be seeing you do often in a Needham shirt!
JS: Let’s hope so, I’m hoping we can match the Fa cup run Needham had last year!
